Kids Myopia Management & Control

Kids Myopia can progress quickly during childhood — but it can be monitored and managed.

Our Kids Myopia Management & Control service focuses on monitoring your child’s prescription, eye growth, visual needs and relevant risk factors. Based on the findings, our optometrists can recommend suitable management options to help slow myopia progression where appropriate and support your child’s long-term eye health.

What We Assess

Myopia & Prescription Measures your child’s current level of short-sightedness and monitors prescription changes over time.
Eye Growth & Progression Monitors relevant changes in the eyes to help assess how myopia is progressing as your child grows.
Risk Factors Considers factors such as age of onset, family history, near work, digital device use and time spent outdoors.
Vision & Eye Health Assesses your child’s visual needs and relevant eye health findings before recommending an appropriate management plan.

Which Children Should Be Assessed?

  • Children already diagnosed with myopia
  • Children whose spectacle prescription is increasing rapidly
  • Children who developed myopia at a young age
  • Children with parents or siblings who have myopia
  • Children who frequently squint or struggle to see distant objects clearly
  • Children who spend long hours on near work or digital devices

More Than Just Stronger Glasses

Simply increasing a spectacle prescription can provide clearer vision, but it does not address how quickly myopia is progressing.

Depending on your child’s age, prescription, eye growth and individual needs, our optometrists may discuss suitable myopia-control spectacle lenses, contact lens options, healthy visual habits and regular monitoring to help manage progression where appropriate.

Why Early Management Matters

As a child grows, the eyeball can also grow longer, increasing axial length and causing myopia to worsen. Higher levels of myopia later in life are associated with an increased risk of certain eye conditions, which is why monitoring and managing progression during childhood can be important for long-term eye health.

The goal of myopia management is not to remove myopia, but to help slow its progression while your child is still growing.
