Cataract Screening

Cloudy or blurred vision can develop gradually — and cataracts are a common cause.

Our Cataract Screening & Vision Assessment evaluates the clarity of the eye’s natural lens, your visual function and overall eye health to help identify cataract changes and determine whether further monitoring or specialist assessment may be needed.

What We Assess

Lens Clarity Examines the natural lens of the eye for clouding or changes that may be consistent with cataract formation.
Visual Acuity & Function Checks how clearly you see and how vision changes may be affecting reading, driving and everyday activities.
Glare & Visual Symptoms Considers symptoms such as glare, poor night vision, faded colours, blurred vision or increased sensitivity to light.
Overall Eye Health Assesses whether other eye conditions may also be contributing to changes in your vision.

Who Should Consider This Assessment?

  • Gradual blurring or cloudiness of vision
  • Increasing glare or difficulty driving at night
  • Colours appearing less bright or vivid
  • Anyone exposed to prolonged high UV environment
  • People aged 40 years and above with unexplained vision changes
  • Patients with diabetes or other risk factors affecting eye health

More Than Just Cloudy Vision

Not every change in vision is caused by cataracts. Our optometrists assess both the natural lens and your overall eye health to determine whether cataract changes are contributing to your symptoms.

If the cataract is mild, regular monitoring and an updated spectacle prescription may be sufficient. If the cataract is significantly affecting your vision or daily activities, our optometrist can refer you to an ophthalmologist for further assessment and cataract surgery when appropriate.

Early Detection Helps You Plan Ahead

Cataracts usually develop gradually. Regular assessment helps monitor changes over time, allows you to plan ahead for future treatment if needed, and helps ensure that other eye conditions are not overlooked. If further treatment or referral is recommended, we will guide you step by step on what to expect and what your next steps should be, so you can make informed decisions about your eye health.
